Information We Collect

App Activity

When you use Whirr, we collect:

  • • Which sounds and mixes you play, save, or favorite
  • • Volume levels and mix configurations you create
  • • Sleep timer and playback session usage
  • • Widget and Live Activity interactions
  • • App preferences and settings

Subscription Information

If you purchase a Whirr subscription, we collect:

  • • Subscription status, plan, and renewal state (via RevenueCat)
  • • Anonymous purchase identifiers tied to your device or account

Whirr never sees your full credit card or payment details — these are handled by Apple, Google, and RevenueCat.

Technical Information

We automatically collect:

  • • Device type, operating system, and Whirr app version
  • • Crash reports and error logs (via Sentry)
  • • Anonymous performance metrics
  • • Locale and time zone (for sleep timers and reminders)

What We Do Not Collect

  • • Microphone audio: Whirr requests microphone access only for features you explicitly enable; recordings stay on-device and are never uploaded
  • • Contacts, photos, location: Whirr never asks for these
  • • Personal identity: No real name, address, or phone number is required

How We Use Your Information

We use your information exclusively to provide and improve Whirr:

  • • Core Playback: Play sounds, save mixes, run sleep timers, and power widgets / Live Activities
  • • Subscription Management: Validate and renew premium access through RevenueCat and the platform stores
  • • Reliability: Detect crashes and audio glitches via Sentry so we can fix them quickly
  • • Improvement: Understand which sounds and mixes people use to plan future content
  • • Legal Compliance: Comply with applicable laws and app store policies

App Tracking Transparency (iOS)

On iOS, Whirr may ask: "Help us make Whirr better — we see which sounds and mixes you use, never your personal info."

You can decline, and Whirr will continue to work normally with no loss of features. You can change this choice anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

Data Protection & Security

We protect your information with:

  • • Trusted Infrastructure: Industry-standard cloud providers with strict access controls
  • • Payment Security: Handled by Apple, Google, and RevenueCat — Whirr never stores card data

Your Rights

Data Retention

We retain data only as long as needed:

  • • Saved Mixes & Preferences: Retained while the app is installed on your device
  • • Crash Reports: Retained for 90 days, then automatically purged
  • • Analytics: Retained for up to 2 years for product improvement
  • • Subscription Records: Retained by RevenueCat per their retention policy
  • • Legal Requirements: Some data may be retained longer to comply with applicable laws

Children's Privacy

Whirr is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
